What we collect, and what happens to it.
Two forms on this site ask you questions, and one of them asks personal ones. This page says plainly what is collected, why, who sees it, how long it is kept, and how to get it back or have it deleted.
Who is responsible
Tour Motherland Ventures is responsible for the information collected through this site. The founder, V. Nana Aba Quaye, reads and handles inquiries personally. For anything on this page, including a request to see or delete your information, write to tourmotherlandventures@gmail.com.
What we collect
We only hold what you type into one of our two forms. We do not buy lists, and we do not collect anything about you in the background.
The inquiry form
Your name, email address, phone number, where you are travelling from, the kind of trip you are considering, group size, approximate dates and trip length, your budget range, and whatever you choose to write in the open questions.
The deep questionnaire
If we agree to go further, we send a longer form. It goes deeper, and some of what it asks is genuinely personal. It includes questions about:
- results of any DNA or ancestry testing you have done
- your religious practice, and which traditions you would want to take part in
- dietary requirements, food you will not eat, and anything we need to know to feed you safely
- how you want the history of the slave trade handled during your visit
- names and contact details for up to three people who can speak to how you travel
- whether you consent to being photographed, and how those photographs may be used
Some of that is what the law calls special category information, and it is treated more carefully than a name and an email address. We ask for it only because it changes how a trip is designed, and you are never obliged to answer any of it. Leave anything blank and the questionnaire still works.
If you give us contact details for a reference, please tell that person first. They have the same rights over their information as you do over yours.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
We use what you send to reply to you, to work out whether we are the right fit, to design a trip, and to brief the guides, hosts and drivers who look after you while you are in Ghana. We rely on your consent, given when you tick the box and submit the form, and on the need to prepare and deliver a trip you have asked us for.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. That does not undo anything already done with your information, but it stops any further use.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to target you with advertising anywhere.
Who else sees it
Three kinds of people and companies:
- Our hosting and form provider. This site is hosted on Netlify, and form submissions pass through and are stored by their service before reaching us.
- Our email provider. Submissions are forwarded to an email inbox, which is operated by Google.
- The people who deliver your trip. Once you become a client, the parts relevant to a particular day are shared with the guides, drivers, hosts, hotels and partner operators who need them. They receive what they need for that purpose and nothing more.
Where it is held
Tour Motherland Ventures operates from the United States and from Ghana, and our hosting and email providers store data on servers in the United States and elsewhere. If you are writing to us from outside those countries, your information will be transferred to and held in them.
How long we keep it
If you inquire and we do not end up working together, we keep what you sent for up to twenty-four months, in case you come back to us, and then delete it. If you travel with us, we keep your trip records for as long as we need them for accounting and for the ordinary running of the business, and then delete them. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any point.
Your rights
Whatever country you are writing from, we will honour all of these. You can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete what we hold
- stop using it, or restrict how we use it
- withdraw a consent you previously gave, including consent to being photographed
Email tourmotherlandventures@gmail.com and we will respond within thirty days. There is no charge. If you are unhappy with how we have handled a request, you are entitled to complain to the data protection authority where you live; in Ghana that is the Data Protection Commission.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. Nothing follows you here, and nothing follows you away. If that changes, this page will change first and you will be asked before anything non-essential is set.
Children
This site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under sixteen. Where a trip includes children, their details reach us from the adult booking on their behalf.
Changes to this page
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and we hold your information, we will email you.
